Five months into a new organization and newly created leadership role, naturally I find myself swiftly moving from planning to execution. Funny thing is, on of the most urgent challenges I am faced with is the importance of holding onto the new perspective and open mindset that comes from… being new.
Here’s why:
Questioning Everything Expedites Learning and Surfaces Opportunities for Improvement: **Employees with fresh perspectives are more likely to challenge existing norms and processes, leading to the identification of innovative solutions and opportunities for improvement. "The Innovator's DNA" by Jeff Dyer, Hal Gregersen, and Clayton Christensen demonstrates that leaders who encourage curiosity among their teams tend to foster a culture of continuous improvement and adaptation.
Newness Demands Preparedness within the Organization: **Welcoming new perspectives requires an organizational readiness that may not have existed before. This is not always easy, but for as challenging as it can be, even the small things make a difference. **The need to accommodate diverse viewpoints prompts the establishment of robust systems and structures for effective communication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
Being New Ignites Ideas Among Teams to Try Different Things: **New team members, unencumbered by pre-existing norms, bring a willingness to explore unconventional approaches.
New Energy is Expended on Creativity vs What is Not Working: **Team members are encouraged to channel their energy into generating innovative ideas, fostering a positive and forward-thinking atmosphere.
One of the biggest commitments I am making to myself and my team at work is to keep this fresh perspective to urge the organization forward. With this in mind, open to any and all ideas for ways to do so! Please share below.
