Helped a client look at the Register Backup process in a different light the other day and thought it would be valuable to share.
You may not realize it, but most traditional register backup processes are chock full of operational holes.
By "operational holes," I mean they waste labor, slow down service (go figure), and aren't particularly effective.
If you've ever worked in retail, you will know that the typical request for Register Backup either ends in: A) multiple people responding, pulling labor off the floor, or B) nobody responding, because they all think "someone else has it."
Am I right or am I right?!
So how do you fix it...
To eliminate the "everybody or nobody" problem, you need to have every associate connected to the same platform and know WHO is responding. At Theatro, we call this a "closed loop workflow." Heather has responded to Register Backup, so nobody else has to. Thanks Heather! (Bonus benefit: employee recognition).
Bob and Kara don't abandon their tasks on the floor, and Anna knows exactly who's coming to help her ring up customers. Labor waste avoided.

This morning I had a major mom fail.
It's back to school season, and I could have SWORN my daughter had the short-sleeve version of the required shirt for Thursday Mass days.
Yet... this morning it was nowhere to be found. 🤦♀️
Yes, I probably should have triple checked this a week ago (or maybe even last night?) but the mental burden for a working mom is real and let's be honest, I usually have 10-20 different things on my mind at any given time between family and career.
Kinda reminded me of when I worked in retail.
So many things to remember, and just when I got into a task, BAM - customer needed assistance. I'd drop what I was doing, thinking I'd come back to it later, and before I knew it I was so sidetracked that I had forgotten to do my next task that was required at a certain time.
It stunk.
That's why I believe so fiercely in the power of Theatro. The expression of relief on an employee's face when they realize they don't have to remember as much reminds me of the WHY behind what I do.
Simple in-ear reminders make a huge difference - relieving the mental overload and allowing our frontline workers to be truly present with their customers, not thinking about the 10-20 other things in the back of their mind.
