When the team from Deakin Business School’s Leadership Futures Hub and the team from Global Victoria’s Japan Women in Leadership Program (Yoshiko Tanaka and Sean Curran) first envisaged a joint event we could not have imagined what a insightful and impactful event it would turn out to be. Keynote speaker Danni Jarrett set the foundation for the discussion of “Boundaryless Leadership: Lessons from Japan for thriving in a global context”. In her address Danni Jarrett highlighted the great impetus, to not only consider how we connect across global regions, but to also reflect on the way in which female leaders may be supported to participate in global leadership. The panel discussion, masterfully moderated by Professor Amanda Pyman, drew on the wealth of experience of the panelists Dr Belle Lim, Catherine Taylor and Makiko Okamoto. Their authentic accounts of their own journey had a strong resonance with the audience. Some of the key themes discussed by the panel revolved around seeking to establish authentic connections, looking for opportunities for common enrichment, considering how to invest in relationships and networks and how to truly embrace diversity. Attendees (both in person and online) were unanimous in their gratitude to the generous speakers and the supportive nature of the event and positive encouraging nature of the discussions. If you want to be part of discussions like this please get in touch with Heather Round or Yuen Lam Wu at the DBS Leadership Futures Hub. #deakinbusinessschool #leadershipfutureshub #globalvictoria #leadership #diversityequityinclusion
