Big gratitude to CityNews Toronto for shining a spotlight on Multiple Myeloma today. It might be the second most common blood cancer, but it’s often missed until too late and the symptoms (fatigue, sore muscles) can be dismissed as “growing old”. In my case it was a sore back that just kept getting worse.. I thought that was due to excessive exercise. If these systems persist please get tested and remind your health practitioners to consider Multiple Myeloma as a potential cause. As today’s event reminded people, it may not be curable.. it IS treatable and life can go on.. including jumping off tall buildings 😉
I’m sharing here an excellent long watch .. perhaps not Social Media “optimized”.. AND that’s the point 😉. It’s a thoughtful discussion that took place this week in Berlin, revealing and explaining a significant collaboration between four public media companies and New_ Public, to incubate new ideas to foster healthier digital discussions and debate. It’s an ambitious undertaking by CBC/Radio-Canada, RTBF, SRG SSR & ZDF .. as well as the team at New_ Public and with formidable challenges in the form of a well established bias towards polarized conversations that may “optimize for engagement”.. but do little to help foster understanding, let alone any real empathy. Kudos to my old boss Catherine Tait, along with Jean-Paul Philippot, Gilles Marchand, Norbert Himmler and Eli Pariser for their leadership and commitment to this. Kudos too, of course, to the many teams working across companies, cultures, languages and timezones.. to make this incubator "real". From my POV, this video is a good investment of your time to see and hear what they have been up to and where this initiative is heading.
