Britta Peterson is #hiring. Know anyone who might be interested?
I turned older on Sunday. This is what my birthday looked like (see flowers below). Although my birthday was full of gorgeous abundance, my job search? Not so much. I have been actively searching for work since February. I am pretty sure that resume readers won’t be sending me flowers. AI? Could possibly figure out that I like flowers. People reviewing my resume? They aren’t ringing me for a chat. Getting older and having experience—even lots of fantastic experience—isn’t the “vibe,” as my 18-year-old might say. This just in, I suppose.
Even in general terms, I don’t know that the hiring process is headed in the right direction: an over-abundance of interviews, unpaid tests, use of resume readers/AI, matching resume keywords to job descriptions... And are we really supposed to be editing our resumes for every job? Does rewriting show a willingness to stretch the truth? A passion to do the extra work to get the job? Sensibleness because it needs to be done? If your career has not followed a linear path and you are not rewriting your work history for every job, are all bets off? Is a diverse background deficient? I do not know the answers. What I do know is that being ghosted post-interviews can feel personal. Maybe we could change that? Swap ghosting for caspering (or something like that).
Perhaps my job hunt is hurt more by the fact that I keep having these birthdays and have had too many of them. But I do love the abundance of flowers and friends.
I wish everyone good luck (an abundance of it) in finding their dream jobs.
