Prior to her time at Cisco, Heidi worked in roles such as Adjunct Lecturer at Santa Clara University, Senior Sales Account Manager at Sprint, and Territory Sales Manager at Ascolta.
Her professional journey also includes positions such as Account Sales Manager at Change Healthcare and Mba Intern at Sun Microsystems.

This looks like a cool job for someone in my network. You know who you are, all my policy and social justice friends. Apple jobs are usually software development. This one looks very different.
I worked in high tech for over a decade and then off-ramped to be a stay-at-home mom and firefighter's wife for what I thought would be a couple years. Troop leader, coach, class room mom, school faire committee chair, board member of the softball league, library reader, clay volunteer....... I did all sorts of organizing, fundraising, leadership, event planning, and advocacy as a stay-at-home mom. This isn't even to mention the "CEO of the home" work managing the budget, optimizing our taxes, planning a family reunion, overseeing contractors and construction work. It was a lot of complex work, all of it completed with a baby at my hip and/or toddler at my feet! Stay-at-home moms are super heroes and unless you've done the work, you have NO IDEA how hard it is. It's even harder for caregivers to the elderly.
When I tried to get back into the workforce, though, NOBODY WOULD HIRE ME!!!! They didn't see any of these skills as transferable and only saw a "mom". I sent hundreds of resumes and had dozens of interviews. "Are you sure you're ready?" "Don't your kids need you at home?"
I decided to run for office because I didn't need anyone's permission and I knew that would get me out of the house to meet people outside the PTA. Even with that I heard comments like, "Why don't you quit all this and go home and take care of your kids?" I lost the race by 1% but parlayed the knowledge into a Board Aide role for the incomparable President Susan Ellenberg (who hired me through a blind interview process because I was the BEST candidate). Finally in a position of influence, and working for a woman who prioritizes children and families, I pitched and she passed the policy at the County for a Caregover Returnship Program for moms (and others) like me who were trying to break back into the workforce.
