Council Member, 6th District (Upper West Side) at New York City Council

Helen Rosenthal is a prominent figure representing the Upper West Side (District 6) in the New York City Council, elected with a record number of votes in 2013.

With a strong focus on city budget negotiations, Helen is an integral member of the City Council Budget and Negotiating Team and holds the position of Vice Chair of Budget for the Progressive Caucus.

Helen has been actively involved in various crucial committees within the council, notably serving on the Council's Finance Committee.

Known for her impactful legislative work, Helen's first bill, Cooper's Law, aims to ensure accountability for NYC taxi drivers involved in fatal accidents due to moving traffic violations.

Helen is dedicated to upholding the legacy of progressive leadership on the Upper West Side and takes pride in representing and serving her community as a Council Member.

Education-wise, Helen pursued a Master's Degree in Public Health from Yale University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Socio-economic Policy and Political Theory from Michigan State University.

Throughout her career, Helen Rosenthal has been actively involved in various organizations, such as ParentJobNet, Inc., Manhattan Community Board 7, Westside Crime Prevention Program, and Protest Easy Guns.

She has also been a founding member of Friends of the Birth Center and held positions on the boards of several organizations including Broadway Malls Association, NARAL ProChoice America, Strycker's Bay Neighborhood Council, Inc., and WomenCare, Inc.

Prior to her current role, Helen served as an Assistant Director at NYC OMB, showcasing a diverse and extensive professional background.
