Henry Fairbairn

Co-Founder and CEO at PreMal

Henry Fairbairn is the co-founder and CEO of PreMal, a Dutch-based social enterprise focused on developing and commercializing high-performance mosquito trapping systems.2 He founded PreMal in January 2019 while pursuing a master's degree in Integrated Product Design at Delft University of Technology.1

Fairbairn's journey with PreMal began when he designed the MTego trap, which catches up to four times more mosquitoes than existing traps.1 This innovative design was the result of a 5-month project where he developed and tested nine different prototypes of mosquito traps.1

As of January 2025, Fairbairn serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at PreMal BV. His work focuses on preventing malaria through the use of these high-performance mosquito traps, particularly in Africa.12 Fairbairn has been working on market validation in Africa, exploring both high-end markets like hotels and safaris, as well as low-end markets including rural households.1

Fairbairn collaborates closely with Wageningen University, working with researchers from the Experimental Zoology Group and the Entomology Group.1 This partnership has been crucial for the development and testing of PreMal's mosquito traps.
