Boeing is contemplating buying Spirit AeroSystems -- formerly Boeing Wichita -- to gain more control over the quality of the production of various commercial aircraft components, including the fuselages of its 737 MAX #aircraft. This CNBC video, produced by Erin Black and featuring Leslie Josephs. Kevin Mitchell, Ronald Epstein, and me discusses the challenges, opportunities and implications of this possible deal.

Boeing.

A company that once stood for #innovation and excellence in #aircraft design, #engineering, and manufacturing today finds itself a subject of speculation, jokes, and even derision. The company that was once so highly respected that people would say "If it's not a Boeing, I'm not going" is now avoided by some passengers (BTW, I am not among those. I recently flew round-trip between San Francisco and Miami on United Airlines 737 MAX 8s).

CNBC interviewed me, along with CNBC airline reporter Leslie Josephs, BofA Managing Director Ronald Epstein, and Southwest Airlines COO Andrew Watterson in a long-form video that explores how the 737 MAX has become, to quote the title, "such a mess." Also featured are United CEO Scott Kirby and Boeing's current CEO, David Calhoun. I hope you'll find the video interesting to watch.
