Highlights
I do not necessarily agree with the title but agree with the content and angle of discussion on prioritization. I think hard (and smart) work is still necessary once we have prioritized our goals. At SemiQon prioritization happen from strategic (choice to be a quantum processor maker) to every-day planning level. It is a necessity for us to prioritize to tackle the big challenges we are addressing with a razor focused team. But that does not mean things stop once we have prioritized. We proudly and honestly put in the rigor and hard work to reach the goals that we have prioritized. Otherwise all prioritization is moot. As is a great strategy on paper unless it is executed properly.
So, IMHO, let's not distract and get misled by such click-bait titles. Let's dig deep and, of course, work hard!
Finland’s strength in quantum tech innovation and, more recently, commercial success stories in that domain still amazes audiences worldwide. Among various reasons for success, one aspect that I believe have played a pivotal role so far is local talent. It is relatively easy to find experts in the neighborhood. Quantum technology is a complex topic that requires years of rigor in study and research to be an expert. SemiQon’s business requires, and have, multitude of skills and expertise but considering the developmental aspect of quantum tech it is no surprise that almost 50% of current employees have doctoral degrees and almost 90% have masters degree. It is not driven by exclusiveness and glamour but by necessity. The need for technical expertise will stay high in this field for some more years. It takes 5-9 years of study and research to acquire these expertise. Finland’s high-quality education on quantum tech is a platform where one can develop such expertise. The SemiQon leadership team recognizes and supports those who are involved in that. We don’t just intend to provide interesting employment opportunities for those who graduate but also want to nurture those who are talents of the future.
The first cohort of SemiQon summer trainees was our first concrete attempt in that direction. We put our faith in Unna, Viktor and Iago. After 3 months I can say with great deal of confidence – we will continue to surprise the world with our home-grown talents! If we manage to inspire new generation of students to study hard subjects like quantum tech and provide them opportunity of flourish, there is no stopping us! And we at SemiQon will continue to support and nurture young talents!
