The US ranks global number 2 in economic losses and number 1 in disaster counts for the first two decades of the 21st century (graph from NGFS Aug 2024 report: https://lnkd.in/eztfH8u2). The US policy-makers need to take action to address climate change as the systemic financial risk as it is.
The Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) published its report on Acute physical risks from climate change and monetary policy, which provides analysis and tools for central banks, such as (1) the aggregate effects and monetary policy on GDP, inflation, and monetary policy and (2) practical examples, such as the modelling the aggregate economic effects from physical hazards.
We at Ceres, Inc. are working with the Feds and other federal and state banking regulators to address climate as a financial risk and protect the safety and soundness of the US market and financial institutions.
