Howard Schubiner

Howard Schubiner is an internist and the director of the Mind Body Medicine Center at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan.14 He is also a Clinical Professor at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.12 Dr. Schubiner has over 45 years of experience in the medical field, having graduated from Wayne State University in 1978.5
Dr. Schubiner is a renowned expert in mind-body medicine and chronic pain treatment. He has authored more than 100 publications in scientific journals and books, and lectures regionally, nationally, and internationally.12 He is the author of three books: "Unlearn Your Pain," "Unlearn Your Anxiety and Depression," and "Hidden From View".12
Throughout his career, Dr. Schubiner has made significant contributions to the field of pain management:
- He developed two novel psychological treatments for chronic pain: Emotion Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT).1
- He has conducted research studies on the application of mind-body medicine techniques for fibromyalgia and back pain.2
- He is part of the team that conducted the Boulder back pain study, which demonstrated the effectiveness of Pain Reprocessing Therapy in treating chronic back pain.4
Dr. Schubiner is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics.2 He has consulted for the American Medical Association, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the National Institute on Mental Health.12
