Hsin-hung Yeh

Hsin-hung (Sean) Yeh is an Associate Teaching Professor of Chinese at Santa Clara University, where he has been part of the faculty since the 2020-2021 academic year. Originally from Taiwan, he relocated to the United States in 2010. Yeh has extensive experience in teaching Mandarin Chinese across various institutions, including five years at Harvard University and ongoing involvement with the Middlebury Chinese Summer School since 2014.123

Yeh completed his Ph.D. studies at Stanford University and focuses his research on several areas, including Chinese/Sinophone linguistics, sociolinguistics (particularly language ideology and attitudes), second language (L2) Chinese pedagogy, language proficiency assessment, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in L2 classrooms. He is also certified as an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) tester and Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) rater by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).12

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Yeh is interested in developing high-leverage teaching practices for Taiwanese language instruction and aims to contribute to Taiwanese programs at UC Berkeley.1
