Highlights
Excited to be at Collision in Toronto leading a conversation we framed as “A hitchhiker’s guide to the cloud”.
Much like the protagonist of the book, many of us have found ourselves reluctantly or with some difficulty transported into the cloud while our datacenters are turned inside out and repurposed by the very cloud providers who disrupted them.
Naturally this is both an exciting and challenging experience. And so we are turning to Douglas Adams to remind us of the importance of a security blanket, how you can achieve the improbable by working your way through all the probable to beware the bad genAI poetry and sociopathic robots, and generally to be more self-aware.
We will talk about the opportunities and risks of ubiquitous and utility computing, how to manage and govern costs and cybersecurity, how to factor in data gravity, balancing hyperscale and “hyperlocal”, and how to chart a course forward where we stay in control and improve our velocity towards our goals.
When the answer is obviously 42, what are your questions about navigating the cloud successfully and owning your destiny?
Sticking my thumb in the air now - I will let you know how this goes….👍

Apple announced a private cloud capability today. From what I understand this is personal private compute capacity for running AI models that can’t execute on the limited resources of your iPhone etc… Craig said “…private cloud compute cryptographically ensures that your iPhone [etc] will refuse to talk to a server unless it’s software has been publicly logged for inspection.” This makes little sense to me but I assume this is some kind of SOC2 type 2 or other verification of compliance that was mangled in the copyediting of his script. Cue the public logging for inspection memes I’m sure you can do better than I did. What do you all think this is all about? #Apple #WWDC #ai #cloud #privatecloud
