🙁 The scenes across our country today are shocking. In the short term justice must be done and law and order re-established. Minority communities and Muslims must feel safe once again.
🌴 But in the long term we need to address the root causes or this violence will repeat.

🪙 Working class communities - black, brown and white - have been systematically disenfranchised and overlooked for several decades. Calls to violence only work when they tap into genuine grievance. We must make sure these communities are properly looked after.

🗞️ Our media needs proper regulation. People are not bad. But if newspapers tell us that immigrants and Muslims are responsible over years - that has an effect. If you read these headlines every day - what else are you meant to believe?

🇬🇧 Our foreign policy must refrain from adventurism and overreach. Unfortunately, all too many migrants are coming from places we started wars in.

💚 Love conquers all. Farage and co want to promote "wedge" politics. Through love we must look to heal these divides. It might seem impossible right now - but over time minority communities and Muslims need to have meals with these rioters.
👦🏽 Unfortunately we are too soft on our younger generation. Helicopter parents and tiger moms are hugging their kids to disaster.
🧑🤝🧑 In my early 20s I had the opportunity to look after two of my younger brothers Mustafa Khan, ACA and Bilal Khan (in the white t-shirts below) and of course now I have a 4 year old and 6 year old.
💪🏽 My parenting philosophy has always been "controlled exposure to hardship". Because hard times create strong people, and good times create weak people.
👶🏼 Rushing over and consoling your kid when he's had a little fall wires him to be a cry-baby. (Of course when it is serious you show them love).
🍱 Packing lunch for a teenager teaches them to be reliant. Dropping them off to school (usually) sends the wrong signal. Get the bus or cycle.
🧐 Our task as parents is to create resilient adults when they are on their own two feet. We fail that if we're too soft and not brave enough to put our kids under controlled stress.
🙂 But if we're brave and take sensible risks, we teach that to our charges.
🇪🇬 I was lucky enough to go to Egypt on my own to study Arabic for 2 months at 16 years old. It shaped me.
🇲🇦 So I cajoled and encouraged my brothers, Abdullah Khan and Sifat Ahmed to do the same in Morocco during A level/in Uni. They went through controlled hardship, loved it, and that experience shapes them to this day. This is them below.
