He is currently focused on establishing a corporate advisory service through Kemp-Welch Capital Management (K-WCM), aimed at assisting technology firms in overcoming growth challenges.

With a background spanning 17 years at the Venture Capital Group of the Business Development Bank of Canada, he played a pivotal role in managing a portfolio of early-stage software and advanced technology investments, with a track record of successful exits.

During his tenure at BDC, John Kemp-Welch actively served on the boards of numerous companies, providing strategic guidance, mentorship to management, and contributing to decisions on strategic direction, turnarounds, finance, M&A, and more.

Prior to his role at BDC, he held key investment management positions at Innovation Ontario Corporation and the Ontario Energy Corporation, where he was actively involved in early stage technology investments within the energy sector.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from McMaster University, further enriching his financial acumen and investment expertise.

His vast professional experience includes advisory roles at Berkeley BioPharma, being a Principal at Phoenix AgriSciences Inc., and serving as a Board Member at various technology companies such as Colligo Networks, 3esi, Covarity, RapidMind Inc., Optessa Inc, Nexgenrx, Mechdyne Corporation, and Kaval wireless.

Additionally, he has held positions such as Partner, Diversified Venture Portfolio and Director at BDC, Director at Innovation Ontario Corporation, and Investment Manager at the Ontario Energy Corporation, showcasing his extensive involvement in the investment and technology sectors.
