A few months back, my colleagues and I undertook a transformative journey to the Nordic beauty of Finland. The mission? Delving into the world of Design Thinking, an elective academic module for our MBA program at University of Warwick - Warwick Business School. We immersed ourselves in a week-long intensive learning experience under the guidance of our proficient professors, Tua Björklund & Floris van der Marel, at Aalto University . From conceptual frameworks and theories to real-world applications of Design Thinking, we saw it all. The essence of inclusive design was not just evident in our curriculum but also tangible in the urban fabric of Helsinki - a city that skillfully merges simplicity, functionality, and elegance to cater to diverse mobility needs. This study module was a gateway to a world of insights, with organizations like POSTI (the regional postal service), STOCKMANN (a leading retail chain), and KELA (social security programs agency) serving as prime case studies. We learned how to unearth the latent needs of users and customers, transforming those insights into value-added solutions that enhance both customer experience and business performance. Moreover, we had the privilege to learn from 🇺🇦 Antti Kujala about the art of orchestrating change, leveraging unique advantages, and the power of storytelling. Our partnership with AALTO University was undoubtedly an enriching academic venture. I am profoundly grateful for the hospitality of the faculty and staff led by Anna-Maija Ahonen and Annika Karvonen, which further elevated this experience. Upon leaving Helsinki, I carried with me a newfound perspective. The business landscape is no longer about the cutthroat competition of products or services; instead, it is a contest to offer superior customer experiences. The essence of customer value now hinges on the equilibrium between the product or service benefits and the sacrifices made to attain it. "HUOMENTA" to all my friends in Finland.
