Highlights
And now to share what’s next: Monday was my first day at VMG Partners, a leading investor behind consumer brands and services like KIND, Quest Bar, [solidcore]. K18 Hair and more. The opportunity ahead is to channel that ecosystem in support of #CommerceInfrastructure and #martech founders with our $400M dedicated Technology fund.
#digitalcommerce and #revtech have been a throughline in my career since 2010, starting with an internship with Raj and Ashutosh at Bloomreach. Other investments / formative collaborations followed, from Ahmed at SquareTrade to Dan and Pete at Optimizely to Nick at Gainsight to Andrew at Wrike and Jason and Viral at 6sense. Each of you have profoundly shaped my understanding of exceptional leadership.
Of course, working with the inimitable Rajesh and Signifyd for the past 7 years has been the finishing school for that journey, adding the operational depth of scaling #Gotomarket and owning a #RevTech stack.
So when Carle, Michael and I first spoke about the vision for VMG Technology, it felt like convergence: a chance to funnel all the lessons learned as an investor and operator in these categories in the service of another generation of founders.
Beyond excited to be on this mission - no one understands the power of ecosystems in company building like VMG does, and I look forward to sharing that launchpad with my #Ecommerce tribe!
📸 : Day 1 front door, Day 1 desk. Let's go!
A bit of personal news: Friday marked my last day at Signifyd. If all good things must come to an end, I’m grateful this run lasted 7+ years. I’ll be returning to #venturecapital, but more on that later. First, some reflections…
Rajesh Ramanand and I first met in 2013, when Signifyd was a seed stage company and I was a fairly green recent MBA grad. Raj loves ribbing me for not investing early! Back then, I couldn’t foresee how big a part of #commerceinfrastructure and #payments (and my life!) this company would become...
Over the next 4 years, Signifyd enjoyed breakout success and I got another chance to invest during the 2017 Series C, led by Bain Capital Ventures. This time, we didn’t miss out on the opportunity to help scale up early success across the enterprise and internationally.
In the year after investing (while I was on the board) , many discussions followed about redefining Signifyd’s GTM for multi-segment growth. They grew into a compelling opportunity: joining this special team and being in the arena with exceptional humans like Raj and Mike Liberty.
And what a journey it’s been since mid-2018. Through all the global events (whiplash?) of the past few years, we have scaled up revenues 7X+ and become the #1 provider of #fraudprotection to the Top 1000 retailers, serving household names like Walmart, Albertsons, Samsung, Abercrombie, Michaels and more. There are too many lessons learned to recap here, but I hope they will support the next gen of #digitalcommerce founders I get to invest behind.
Knowing what’s brewing across our product and client teams, it’s clear that Signifyd’s best years are ahead of it. Thank you Raj, Mike and the Signifyd board (Sandesh, Matt, Pete, Ahmed) for betting on me and supporting the leap from VC to GTM leader.
Thank you J. Bennett, Emily, Swaminathan, Daniel and Dan for the thought partnership, the many late nights and the getting-it-done across teams!
And thank you Arjun, David, Greg, Vid, Christian, Dan, Will, Stefan and the many wonderful Signifiers on this journey for your commitment, follow-through and camaraderie. #FearlessCommerce forever!
