Friends,

I am falling behind again with my LinkedIn posts, but I had such fun and excitement during my recent trip to Silicon Valley and LA, aka Silicon Beach these days. Highlights from the last US trip included:

  1. Meeting and conversations with decision-makers of a US-based early-stage deep-tech VC founded by my fellow Koreans and Korean-Americans for investmemts into early-stage Korean and other Asian tech ventures, looking for 10x-20x returns, regarding my future roles as a new GP-in-planning for their second Fund (~1H 2025)

  2. Discussions with a longtime mentor/friend in Silicon Valley about co-founding special purpose vehicles (SPVs) to aid investments by Korean and Middle Eastern strategic and institutional investors into mid-to-later stage US ventures, looking for 2x ~ 6x returns (~1H 2025)

  3. Also talks with an internationally renowned young American digital artist & tech-investor friend of mine in NYC, about co-founding SPVs and possibly even a VC for seed-stage investments into cutting edge ventures in AI, robotics and biotech, for potential 100x returns (although at higher risks too) (~4H 2024)

  4. Deep discussions with my dear friend and now business partner Krista Kim a top international digital artist living in LA, as well as people in her networks, about our plan to co-found a group of companies under an international holdings structure, to innovate luxury wellness hospitality and wellness beauty products and services sectors, taking advantage of cutting-edge healing digital technologies including digital art and AI, as well as the world-renowned, science-backed Korean wellness & beauty capabilities (~2H 2025)

  5. In LA, joining and attending, as a new member, the 3rd Korea Conference, an exclusive tech investor event on a yacht floating in Marina Del Ray, organized by visionary Korean-American leader Jenny Chu and her accomplished Korean and Korean-American friends who are investors and founders.

A really hectic 6 days of trips to Silicon Valley and then Silicon Beach a week ago, I am now back to Sharjah, UAE, attending IGCF(Int'l Gov't Communications Forum) 2024 but that's another post, so stay tuned :)

It's been a few weeks, but on June 24, I participated in the UN Public Service Forum (#UNPSF) held in Song-do, Incheon, Korea, as a panelist for Plenary Panel titled Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Government, along with 3 other parlnelists:

  • Dimitri Kusnezov, under-secretary of the U.S. Dept of Homeland Security,

  • Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of ICT, Republic of Uzbekistan, and

  • Barbara-Chiara Ubaldi, Deputy Head of Division & Head of Unit OECD Public Governance Directorate

I, as a Member of Korean Presidential Committee on Digital Platform Government, had been asked by the Ministry of Interior and Safery (host of the UNPSF this year) to represent Korea as a topic expert.

David Green, Director for S&T Innovation, Transition & Integration Systems, Green Resilience Insights, was the moderator.

For 90 minutes, we talked about topics including:

  • Governments and public's trust in them in the Era of A.I.
  • Transparency, fairness and accountability, and
  • Readying the governments and public services for AI.

For those of you who may be interested in what the panelists discussed, here's the YouTube link for the UNPSF 2024 Plenary.

This year's Forum was held for 3 days between June 24 and June 26, with overall motto of 'Fostering Innovation Amid Global Challenges - A Public Services Perspective'.

His Excellency Junhwa Li, undersecratary of the United Nations came to the event to honor it.

In addition to being a Plenary Panelist on Day 1, I also was a speaker and panelist in Workshop 5 Climate Actions, at a Session 4 "A.I. for Climate Action", on Day 2.

A.I. is changing every sectot in societies of all nations and it is becoming paramount that the world's governments are starting to pay attention on readying themselves, and I am glad that I am contributing small parts as advisor and subject expert.
