Highlights
I was invited to give two talks at our DevDays 2024 conference this year. The first I shared earlier on Open Telemetry. This week, I re-recorded the second lightening talk, which is a15min presentation often more focused on a specific topic.
My talk was "In Defense of Open-Source" with the bi-line "Open-Source vs Closed from a Producer, Consumer, and Developer Point of View". I re-recorded because I have rather strong opinions on Open-Source so I wanted to put in a note about these being my views and not necessarily those of my employer
That video is now live on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/ghPy5g_m
You can skip to just past the 5:56 mark if you don't care to hear my take on the first (Producer) as speak on Hashicorp (IBM), Elastic, Redis and Mongo. A colleague gave me the feedback that the last 2/3 is more interesting.
#OpenSource
I had an amazing #WellSky #DevDays2024 and was able to present a longer talk on #OpenTelemetry, New Relic,#GCP #CloudTrace, #Zipkin and more titled "Scalable Traceable Solutions with New Relic and OpenTelemetry" where in the talk I build a fresh .NET MVC 8 app with a #PostgreSQL #CloudSQL backend, dockerize it then set it up in #kubernetes. I then instrument it 4 ways (3 with #Otel), comparing and contrasting.
I gave nearly the same talk to the #NewRelic User Group this week as well (and that one I can share). The only real differences are clearly the later is a bit more deferential to my hosts.
