Behavioral Economist - PhD Candidate at Harvard

Isabel Macdonald, PhD, is a final year Public Policy PhD Candidate at Harvard University with a focus on applying behavioral economics to real-world issues.

Isabel's passion lies in addressing challenges related to education and household finance through her research projects.

Her current work involves studying the trade-offs individuals make between psychological and financial costs of debt repayment, social stigmas impacting mobile money usage in Kenya, and strategies for schools in Pakistan to mitigate learning loss and dropouts during COVID-19 school closures.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Economics and International Relations from Claremont McKenna College, and has pursued additional education in Behavioral Finance at Yale and Behavioral Science at the Busara Center.

Isabel has a diverse organizational background, having served in roles like Consultant at The World Bank, Vocational Pathways Consultant at Jobs for the Future, and Talent Consulting Associate at Mercer.

She has also contributed her expertise as a Microfinance Fellow at Vittana Foundation and as an Economics Research Assistant at Lowe Institute of Political Economy.
