There is an elephant in the room 🐘 in all our rooms.

Last week, I had the honor of speaking at Ignite The Spark annual Energy All Stars event. During a panel on Climate Tech investments, I felt a profound responsibility to talk about the elephant in the room and address not only the opportunities and challenges in our sector but also the broader context that shapes our work and our future.

I felt that I had to speak about the war in Israel, and how it's devastating our society, our economy, and our national spirit. Israel's current government is systematically dismantling the dream of our startup nation. It's heartbreaking to witness the erosion of the liberal democracy that once fueled our innovation and economic growth.

To truly push the Climate Tech ecosystem forward, we need more than just brilliant minds and hard work—we need a supportive, progressive, and stable government. This government is driving away entrepreneurs and foreign investors that are crucial to our progress. Under this leadership, there is no future for the vibrant, democratic society that fosters innovation and protects our planet through climate technology.

The reaction to my words was a stark reminder of the divide we face. Some attendees, feeling it was too political, left the panel in protest. However, the vast majority stayed, applauded, and later reached out to express their agreement and support.

This mixed response underscores the urgent need for change. It might sound unrelated at first, but to safeguard the Climate Tech ecosystem in Israel, we must not just lead new research, raise funds, develop innovations and launch businesses - we must first push Israel to adopt a new leadership and advocate for a government that values democracy, innovation, and sustainable progress. It's a fight for our future, and it's a fight we cannot afford to lose.

Thank you Eshel Lipman and Shon Dana for organizing this event
