I first properly connected with Gift Ajimokun back in 2018 when she was teasing out the communications campaign to promote author talks for Penguin Books colleagues in celebration of Black History Month. Gift was the Founder and Chair of Colour[full], the company's first community for people of colour. All in addition to her actual day job. This (amongst other things!) saw Gift being named in the ‘Top 10 BAME Workplace Heroes of 2019’ by the Investing in Ethnicity Awards.

In a word I would describe Gift as a POWERHOUSE. She inspires & energises me without ceasing. If you’re looking for black excellence, THIS IS IT.

Gift’s latest venture is OKE - a black owned jewellery business aiming to create visibility and provide education on the history and culture of the Urhobo people in Nigeria.

To mark Nigerian Independence Day and the start of Black History Month in the UK - today OKE launches on Crowdfunder.

Please share, and contribute if you can! You’ll be helping start a black-owned business led by a female founder. Plus it’s Gift’s birthday month so let’s see out her 21st year with a smashed fundraising target!

Great opportunity for teachers to kick off term with this week.

We’re on the lookout for 80 primary schools to join our programme that's helping teachers re-imagine their libraries as hubs of creativity and imagination. Find out how to get involved here: https://lnkd.in/dVvTNw8

We know that many schools share our passion for books and reading, but can struggle to dedicate the time or money to invest in reading for pleasure. To address this problem we launched Puffin World of Stories in September 2018 – a pilot programme in partnership with the National Literacy Trust to support 50 disadvantaged primary schools across the UK. We’ve been supporting these schools by offering free books, bespoke training, resources and more.

Puffin World of Stories is one of the four elements of our two year partnership with the National Literacy Trust.
