It has been 2 weeks since I got once again an opportunity to host the Showcase event at Digital Society School together with Marco Van Hout in front of an enthusiastic crowd. We decided to do it slightly differently this time with a YouTube livestream accompanying our in-person event, and it was a success!

Last time, I shared several learnings based on my experience with everyone who does public speaking and event hosting. Now, however, there was one thing in particular that stuck with me after the event.

Anyone that had to organise an event at least once knows that things never go as planned. It was no exception for us this time either. One of our speakers fell ill, and we got to know about it only on the day of the Showcase. This called for some anxiety from my side about how we should adjust our programme to accommodate this change.

Instead of seeking a last-minute substitution, Marco and I decided to dedicate more time to our engagement with the audience and conversations with our other 2 amazing speakers. Result? A buzzing vibe and a very positive response from our guests. In the end, we achieved what we hoped for :)

So, what I take with me to the future is another confirmation that change (even last minute) is just another opportunity and it's up to us what we do with it.
