Have a new community section or community feature... and it's not booming?

  1. Was it easy to find? Or clearly positioned? Or clearly articulated?
  2. What is the point or value of validation? Is that clear to users?
  3. Needs to have callbacks + comms to support (outside of the section/feature)
  4. Needs to have some S&D within intervals - the surprise spike or the big reward spike
  5. Is there clear gamification for it?
  6. Is it fun? Does it give a sense of energy or fun or whimsy or importance?
  7. Give it time, these things need to have consistency and trust too.
  8. It's ok to change things up every now & again too, to keep things fresh! But always make sure to find a way to include the community in some degree -- change is fun, but change can be scary or anger inducing too.

If you find joy in the creation + celebration, and you find ways to infuse joy for viewers, and you find CTAs that illicit joy... you're doing it right.

Vibrant lessons I learned from collegiate women's soccer that I still benefit (p.s. GO USWNT!! ⚽):

  1. The differing roles people take in development and operations.
  2. Embracing fresh eyes, fresh legs, fresh talent.
  3. Just because your right, doesn't mean you're right.
  4. Working hard vs working smart vs strategically scrappy vs wasted effort scrappy.
  5. Dynamics of power, and perceptions of power.
  6. The role of jealousy vs fear in development.
  7. Fate
  8. The subtle differences at play with "above and beyond" vs "invested dedication"
  9. Sometimes you have to lose a bit to win more.
  10. Even big personalities need to learn how to step back and be one of the pack - and that might just be the hardest lesson they need to learn.

Mad props to #FlavorFlav for supporting women's sports. Props to the USWNT for their big win today. And props to Ilona Maher for being a "leave it all on the field, and make a name for this sport in our country" icon.
