J. Showalter is a partner in the environmental group at Schiff Hardin LLP, where he specializes in assisting businesses like manufacturers, developers, and utilities in resolving complex environmental issues through litigation.

He focuses on making intricate facts and regulations understandable to both decision-makers and clients, blending technical environmental expertise with a strong understanding of commercial and toxic tort litigation.

Showalter's experience spans a wide range of environmental cases, including disputes related to mergers and acquisitions, historic dams, federal and state environmental laws, fracking, carbon-capture sequestration, and contamination clean-up.

His passion for his work stems from the opportunity to continuously learn, meet interesting people, and help clients operate within legal compliance while considering community needs.

Apart from his legal practice, Showalter serves as the chair of Schiff's Law Student Recruitment Committee.

His educational background includes a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, an A.B. in Political Economics and Religion from Columbia University, and studies in International Relations at the University of St. Andrews.

Prior to his current role at Schiff Hardin LLP, Showalter held positions at Foley & Lardner LLP, Hunton & Williams LLP, and as a Law Clerk at various U.S. District Courts and law firms.

He also brings past experience as a Legal Assistant at Shearman & Sterling LLP and as a Summer Associate at Schrader, Byrd & Companion PLLC.
