Today, I had again a digital meeting with several hospital executives that I met in June at HLTH Europe in #Amsterdam. Ideas, emails, and phone conversations with other individuals from various companies have flowed since then. I can say that Europe's biggest health innovation event was a success.

In reflection, it was an inspiring few days filled with insightful discussions, innovative ideas, and valuable connections. With some of my hospital colleagues, we met with hospital leaders from around the world, engaged with top producers of cutting-edge medical equipment, and were motivated by some truly inspirational speakers.

Attending conferences like HLTH is crucial for staying ahead in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. It’s not just about discovering the latest trends and technologies—it's also about bringing these insights back to our teams, our hospital, and to #Aruba. Sharing what we’ve learned with our colleagues fosters collaboration, sparks innovation, and ensures that we’re all aligned in our mission to enhance patient care and operational efficiency to support our vision: accessible healthcare for everyone without compromising on quality.

Grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and learn from the best in the industry—looking forward to continuing to put these insights into action!

“There’s no such thing as a vote that doesn’t matter.” A striking quote from Barack Obama.

These days is ‘Election Day’ for many Europeans. Voting for parties and their candidates for the European Parliament. Not only in the member states of the European Union, or at their embassies in foreign countries. But also in many countries, islands, or places around the world as they are directly, or indirectly part of the European Union through the connection they have with a kingdom or republic in Europe. Like the beautiful Caribbean Island Aruba, where I live currently.

Aruba is connected to the Netherlands since 1636. The island became an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1986. Therefore, although it’s almost 8.000 km away from Europe, everyone in Aruba has a Dutch European passport and, therewith, the right to vote for the European Parliament.

The right to vote, is a crucial and powerful right that binds us all together. Voting is not merely a civic duty; it is an expression of our hard-fought freedom of movement and speech, as well as a commitment to our collective future, children, and planet. The importance of voting is often underestimated. Political changes in a democracy, are only possible when every voice is heard.

More often than people in Aruba realize, we are privileged to be part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and, through it, the larger European Union. This connection provides us with unique opportunities, economic, social, cultural, and geopolitical benefits, as well as a voice in the broader European context.

Our participation in the European elections ensures that Aruba’s interests are well represented. That we remain an integral part of the European community, and that we continue to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities this connection brings. This is maybe more important than ever facing the current global landscape, where the world faces a growing threat of instability due to power plays, mind-blowing behavior, terrorism, or totalitarian ideas and acts of countries, politicians, and individuals.

So, despite the distance from Europe and with full conviction, I voted in today’s elections. For the people of islands such as Aruba, for the people of the Netherlands, and for a better Europe. To secure a little bit of my voice, and influence in the larger arena so far away from here. And let's be honest, there are worser places around the globe to cast your vote. The infinite turquoise ocean is the best representative of freedom and opportunities. This makes it a perfect incentive to color two squares red, which are part of the changes I would like to see.
