Do you ever find yourself pausing to reflect around your birthday?

That was me last week as both Koddo & Co. Consulting Inc. and I celebrated big milestones—my birthday and Koddo & Co.'s sixth anniversary!

Looking back, it's clear that a lot can happen in just a year. Year three of my pivot into the online education space had some promising moments, but I could see from my own cash flow forecast that things would get rough if I didn’t focus solely on what was actually generating revenue: my fractional CFO services.

When I started with the online course idea in 2021, I set a financial limit for myself. I told myself,

"I'm only willing to invest up to my business line of credit, and if I run out of that and this thing isn’t working, it’s time to shut it down."

And that’s exactly what happened.

Last October, I had to make some tough decisions—canceling the next cohort of Boost Your Cashflow, ending a few contracts with people I truly enjoyed working with, and shifting into cash flow conservation mode.

But looking back, I’m so happy I made those decisions. Since then, I’ve zeroed in on working with agency and firm owners in the $1M-$10M revenue range, and the results have been incredible.

This summer, my revenue tripled compared to last summer, and I’ve found so much more ease in my work—not having to be "Instagram ready" every day has been a huge relief.

I didn’t realize how exhausted I was from trying to generate content daily for 18 months. The moment I decided to shut down the online course efforts, I stopped focusing on Instagram, and my mental health improved significantly.

The biggest lesson? It’s not a failure to try something new, set a parameter, and then act when you reach it. It’s an act of self-preservation and smart decision-making. The entrepreneur in me might have said, "Just keep trying; it’ll work out eventually." But if I had done that, I’d be struggling a lot more financially today.

As I look ahead, who knows what the next year will bring? What I do know is that my intention at the start of this year to "stabilize with ease" has been my guiding principle.

This shift has led me from primarily fractional CFO work to more business advisory work with a financial focus, allowing me to collaborate with some excellent senior accounting, controller, and CFO professionals. This has brought the magic back into my work.

What I’m enjoying most is walking alongside my agency owner clients, being a steadfast rock in the rollercoaster that is entrepreneurship. It’s a tough and lonely road at times, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.

As always, if you’re reading this, thank you for being part of my entrepreneurial journey. You inspire and motivate me more than you know.

Cheers to another year! Jacinthe
