Jack J. McCauley is a renowned American engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur who has made significant contributions to the tech industry. He is currently a Board Trustee at the University of California, Berkeley, and serves as an Innovator-in-Residence at the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation within UC Berkeley's College of Engineering.23
McCauley is best known for co-founding Oculus VR and serving as its chief engineer. Oculus, a pioneering company in virtual reality technology, was acquired by Facebook for $2.3 billion in 2014.2 He played a crucial role in designing and building the Oculus DK1 and DK2 virtual reality headsets.3
Some of McCauley's notable achievements include:
- Designing the guitar and drum interfaces for the popular Guitar Hero video game series.24

McCauley graduated from UC Berkeley with a BSc in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1986.3 His connection to Berkeley has come full circle, as he now mentors students and contributes to the university's innovation programs.5
In addition to his technical accomplishments, McCauley is an active philanthropist. He has made significant contributions to education and science, including establishing the McCauley Chair in Drug Policy Innovation at the RAND Corporation.2
