It has officially been one month since I had the honor of joining 60 young leaders, 60 peers, and now I can confidently say - 60 friends, as we were plugged right into the heart of the 2024 Urban Future. conference in Rotterdam.

Cornelia Forsthuber (and others) thank you so much for bringing us all together!

Trying to sum up the experience in a few short lines would never do justice to the incredible diversity of people I had the good fortune to spend those days with. Having such direct access to genuine luminaries and forward thinkers in the planning sector like Enrique Penalosa, Maria Vassilakou and Marco Te Brömmelstroet (to name just a few) was an incredible opportunity.

Each learning session, fireside chat, and individual interaction has been like adding kindling to my own personal bonfire. Innovative and sustainable progress is absolutely possible, and open communication, idea sharing, and cooperative learning are just a few of the tools that will help us find our next step forward.

To say that I’m profoundly grateful for the connections made, the knowledge shared, and the collective vision we are now all part of, would be an understatement of the highest order.

Each of you has made me want to be a better leader and contributor to my community. So here's to carrying forward the momentum, never being afraid to ask difficult questions, and taking our cities forward one step at a time!

Today, Portland City Council joined numerous other jurisdictions in pursuing legal action regarding price gouging for vital medical products (specifically insulin) provided to public employees.

With very little innovation, and actually some production cost savings across the board, we have seen producers and pharmancy benefit managers inflating prices for lifesaving medicine by over 1,000% in the last 20 years.

It’s time to push back!
