Pleased to share the USAID Digital Ecosystem Regional Assessment (DERA) for Central America (https://lnkd.in/eCmz2p2c), for which I served as Lead Technical Researcher. I have to say that this one is extra special to me because it's the last installment of the four digital ecosystem country/regional assessments (DECA/DERA) -- Peru, Honduras, Panama, and Central America -- I contributed to since 2021 as part of the USAID Digital Frontiers mechanism implemented by DAI.

Home to approximately 51 million people, Central America is by no means a monolith; each of the region’s seven countries varies in population, culture, politics, and economy. Their differences necessitate differentiated approaches and solutions to develop their respective digital ecosystems. However, the countries in the region have a shared history of collaboration and have many common challenges and opportunities.

The report delves into the broad pillars of:

📳 Digital infrastructure and adoption (with a focus on 5G) 📶 Digital society, rights, and governance (democratic backsliding, data protection, protection or harm of marginalized or vulnerable populations) 🛰 Digital economy (digital talent pool, digitization of trade processes, and digital remittances) 🚦 Cybersecurity

Thank you for the opportunity and your leadership Michelle P., Susannah Horton, Raiyan Kabir, Inta Plostins, Emily Joyce, and Teodora Mihaylova, MA. Also, thank you to Iris Palma-Rojas and Óscar Noé Ávila-Molina, LL.M. for lending me your expertise during the research process.

I am now a bonifide digital nerd. Let's connect if you're equally passionate about all things digital!
