Following up on yesterdays GPT-4o announcements here are the here are four top reasons to make the change from GPT-4 Turbo to GPT-4o API:

  • Cost Reduction: GPT-4o is 50% more affordable than GPT-4 Turbo. This price advantage extends across both input and output tokens, significantly reducing your operating costs.
  • Enhanced Speed: Experience a 2x improvement in latency with GPT-4o. This means faster response times, enhancing efficiency and user satisfaction.
  • Higher Capacity: Prepare for a substantial increase in your operational capability with rate limits that are 5 times higher than those of GPT-4 Turbo, scaling up to 10 million tokens per minute for high-usage scenarios.
  • Advanced Capabilities: GPT-4o not only supports text and vision with improved functionality in non-English languages and a wider context window but is also set to introduce exclusive audio and video capabilities to a select group of partners.

These represent the cold economic reasons to switch. The AI wars are heating up. Expect more features at lower prices on the horizon.

Just finished watching the GPT-4o launch announcement. You can read more about the launch here https://lnkd.in/eSJcH985.

Just to convey the live demo highlights. The team showed the voice chat, which was fast, had emotion, seamlessly handled interruptions and did a great job of coming across as "human".

As an example of the visual capability, GPT-4o solved a linear equation which was written on a piece of paper and guided the user through solving the equation. It also did a great job of explaining a graph showing high, average and low temperatures over the year.

Next there was an example of a live translation between two users. One speaking English and the other Italian. It was impressive. Lastly, there was an illustration of GPT-4o's ability to interpret emotions from a selfie image - which I thought was very good given that it gave some subtle insights that were specific to the nature of the picture.

My takeaway from this demo is that GPT-4o continues to build on their excellent progress. The focus here was making the product more accessible to every user. It does leave you wondering when they are going to unveil GPT 5, which seems due soon.

If you are building in this space, you must focus on how to leverage the continued development that OpenAI is producing. Don't try and work in the space where OpenAI is directly developing. You will most likely be steamrolled!
