With a background that includes tenure in both the U.S. and Latin America at Welch Allyn, James Merritt went on to establish MD International Inc. (MDI) in 1987, a Miami-based company that swiftly rose to prominence as the leading manufacturers' representative and independent distributor of medical equipment in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During his tenure as the President and CEO of MDI, Merritt fostered enduring connections with numerous business leaders globally, spanning from Fortune 500 corporations to budding entrepreneurial ventures. His efforts culminated in the successful sale of MDI to Welch Allyn in 2009, solidifying his reputation as a visionary in the industry.

Beyond his corporate triumphs, Merritt has dedicated substantial time to engaging in philanthropic endeavors across the globe. Post his exit from MDI, he established Social Entrepreneurial Enterprises (SEE), Inc., an organization focused on initiatives aimed at empowering individuals through education and training. Notable projects under SEE's umbrella include the Portland Arts and Vocational Education (PAVE) Centre, delivering tailored training programs to Jamaican students, and a collaboration with the Manfred Memorial Foundation to develop a retreat center in South Miami-Dade County.

Over the years, he has actively participated in various business conferences and seminars, locally and internationally, serving as a sponsor, organizer, facilitator, and keynote speaker. Since 1986, Merritt has been an integral part of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), assuming roles such as regional board member and economic summit chair, contributing significantly to the growth and development of aspiring business leaders.

Furthermore, in his role as an overseer of the mission office at Kendall United Methodist Church in Miami, Merritt extends his positive impact beyond the realms of business and philanthropy, embodying a holistic approach towards community service and personal development.
