Thought For The Day!
Just a heads-up for some of you that you will see 'Pink (Rose)' in Church this weekend. This is Laetare Sunday, celebrated by many Christian Churches, as the midway point of Lent. A time of preparation for us to receive the Lord into our lives and the life of the world at Easter.
Keep in mind we are in Lent, which is that solemn religious observance that begins on Ash Weds. and ends approximately six weeks later, with Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of all 'believers' for Easter through prayer, penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, and denial of unnecessary earthy things.
The last week of Lent is Holy Week, starting with Palm Sunday. Following the New Testament story, Jesus' crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, and at the beginning of the next week the joyful celebration of Easter Sunday recalls the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
During Lent, many Christians commit to fasting, as well as giving up certain luxuries in order to replicate the account of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ's journey into the desert for 40 days.
Lent ends either on the evening of Holy Thursday, or at sundown on Holy Saturday, when the Easter Vigil is celebrated. Regardless, Lenten practices are properly maintained until the evening of Holy Saturday.
Today's Thought For The Day!
I always find reading the Bible, especially the Gospels, thought-provoking, enlightening, and inspiring - after all that was and is God's intent. In light of today's political circus, I have found the readings in Church this weekend very appropriate, as I view the world around us. If you choose to read Luke 6:39-45, maybe you'll agree with me.
Keep in mind we are measured by the Good and Evil we bring to life and what goes around, comes around. We each have Good and Bad biases within our minds and hearts. The Good and Evil planted in our minds and hearts will always, at some point, come out in our actions and words. My daily prayer is that Good will always overcome Evil. And truth will always prevail!
Blessings to All, Jim
