James L Allan is a seasoned professional with a passion for the power of ideas and networks in bringing about transformative change. He currently serves as the Director of Alumni and Stakeholder Relations at The University of Melbourne, where he focuses on promoting education and evidence-based debate.

James brings a wealth of expertise in various areas including strategic planning, stakeholder relations, non-profit management, board governance, communications and media theory, digital communications, community engagement, teaching, public speaking, qualitative and quantitative research, and writing.

He holds a PhD in Communications from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an MA in Communication from McGill University, and a BA in English and History from the University of Toronto. With a diverse educational background, James is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of his field.

Having held key roles such as Executive Director of Community and Alumni Relations, and Senior Director of Alumni Relations at York University, James has a strong foundation in cultivating relationships and engaging with diverse groups of stakeholders. His experience as a Manager of Alumni Communications at York University has honed his skills in effective communication strategies.

Apart from his professional endeavors, James finds joy in singing in a classical chamber choir, bodybuilding, and exploring art galleries and museums during his travels. His diverse interests reflect a well-rounded individual who values creativity, physical wellness, and cultural experiences.

As an Adjunct Professor of Media Studies at The New School and a Lecturer in the Department of Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, James is also committed to sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of professionals, further enriching his contributions to the academic community.
