Don’t assume your BAME and Muslim neighbours and colleagues are coping & doing okay. Call, show up, offer to meet them to accompany them anywhere they need. Most POC you know are worrying about their kids, their parents, their whole community & the wounds that the riots reopened.
The violence and hate displayed this week will last long after the immediate crisis is dealt with. Show up- even if you don’t know exactly what to say- ask what you can do and be prepared to do it. Don’t underestimate the damage done this week, to belonging and confidence.
Don’t share videos that auto play of mobs attacking people of colour even if condemning them, don’t share videos of hate on social but if you have them, share them with the authorities. Bring food, bring kindness, bring support. And show up. Not just a text or email.
We all have the tendency to pretend we are okay, no one should be okay seeing what is happening in our country.
Show up, even if it is awkward, even if it doesn’t feel comfortable to ask. The more of us that stand up individually and offer, counteract the horrific and violent hate on display. We must not be silent. We must fight back.

I can’t describe how frightening it is to worry about going outside to do everyday stuff. I have various client meetings this week, and I’m having to be super vigilant.
No one should have to do this in 2024.
