I'm so happy to share that I've joined the board of Chapter 510 , an Oakland-based youth writing center. The artists and volunteers at Chapter 510 work side-by-side with educators to create a safe and empowering space for Oakland’s Black, brown and queer youth to write, publish, and podcast. I moved to Oakland in 2012 and have been in the East Bay since. The 510 is culturally unique and the kids absolutely have something to say. I think it’s so important to amplify the diverse voices of Oakland’s students, especially in today’s climate where there are such concerted efforts to drown them out. My goal is to make sure you all hear these voices in the East Bay and beyond! Be on the lookout for when I reach out to see what cool things we can do together. 😀
