Web3 is here to stay, and I'm happy that One Earth Risingโข is part of the Blockchain Game Alliance. The fantastic team and its members are constantly pushing the envelope when it comes to developing new ways of making the world of Web3 more accessible and beneficial for its users.
Thank you for sharing the survey, Flavien.
gamescom was a blast ๐ฅ not only was itย Bronson's first one, but we also had the pleasure of randomly running into many friends, meeting with old and new shakers and movers, and generally soaking up the positivity that filled the insanely huge halls of theย Cologne Convention Center.
๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฑ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ attendees came this year. gamescom clearly deserves the title of being the biggest video game expo in the world. Even better, the host shared that until Saturday, more than 300 million content pieces related to gamescom had been consumed, doubling the results from last year - mind blown! ๐คฏ
๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐๐:
๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ง๐๐ก๐๐๐ก๐๐ - Once again, Nintendo and Sony were no-shows, leaving Microsoft to rule the floor. But this shift spotlighted Indies and smaller studiosโa trend Iโm loving. And guess who else made a comeback? Booth babes! Sexy women in skimpy outfits, aiming for gamersโ hearts and wallets ๐ Say what you will about this sexist relic, but it always cracks me up.
๐ ๐๐ข๐ช๐ก๐ฆ๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ - On the same note, the industry and players seem to focus further on smaller games and AA rather than AAA titles. I realize that while I'm saying that, ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ ๐๐๐ต: ๐ช๐๐ธ๐ผ๐ป๐ด is breaking the charts right now. But even if the title had a big budget, with $40M it's definitely on the lower end of AAA. While AI fears rattle developers, itโs a chance to cut costs and invest in creative storytellers and game designers.
๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ง ๐ฃ๐๐ช ๐ฃ๐๐ช, ๐ก๐ข ๐ก๐๐ช ๐ก๐๐ช - Robert Bowlingโs legendary line nails it: major publishers are stuck in a rut, churning out stale gameplay (just look at the lukewarm Borderlands 4 announcement). Meanwhile, indie gems like ๐ ๐ผ๐๐๐ฒ: ๐ฃ.๐. ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ from Australiaโs PlaySide Studios mix FPS with a Cuphead vibeโand itโs fantastic.
๐ค ๐ ๐ข๐ข๐ - Of course, this is only anecdotal, but despite the overall disruption in the video game industry, the overall mood of the crowd was cheerful and optimistic. Web3 gaming had a strong presence with less of an emphasis on the Web3 part (thank god!) and more on the gameplay and utility part - a shift that should have happened years ago.
Iโm still in the euphoria following gamescom this year. Partly due to the anticipation of the great new games coming out soon but mainly due to our great meetings and the people we met.
