Covid 19 USA economic response idea #usa #economic #response

This idea came from my brilliant wife, Paige Leigh.

In an unprecedented time of shared sacrifice we require bold action to see us through.

Could we freeze rent and mortgage payments for all residential and commercial properties in the US for the crisis' duration? No payments due, no means-testing, and financial terms extended when its over.

Eliminating housing costs right now allows people to focus on staying home healthy and allow business owners a chance to stay afloat until after the crisis is over.

This would alleviate the stomach-churning worry that after losing jobs, people might lose their home, too. Unemployment compensation, for those who qualify, won't cover the cost of food and housing. Direct government cash payments will help most people for but a few weeks.

It defies logic that banks would take possession of millions of homes that they will then have to maintain—homes they cannot sell because no one is buying.

It’s helpful to halt evictions and foreclosures during the crisis, but most people won't be able to cover full payment when the crisis ends, especially those who have already lost jobs or are on the edge of doing so.

Let people stay in their homes with hope they’ll be able to keep them.
