Nearly 9 years ago, Todd Crockett and I landed in Medford, Oregon for a meeting that changed my career. We met Jeff Blum, Procare’s founder, who had used his life savings to build the market-leading childcare software and payments solution. Jeff Blum, Rick Waldron, Brad Olson, and Darren Gapp built an extraordinary company and 45 days later they trusted this (barely) 30 year old with a majority investment. Thanks to Todd, we recruited the magnificant JoAnn Kintzel to run the business after Jeff’s retirement. Her second time in the big chair for TA Associates defined success for the better part of a decade. Warburg Pincus LLC joined us in 2018 and Ashutosh Somani, Mike Ding and Chandler Reedy were great partners.
To me, Procare represents a true American success story. A bootstrapping founder in Jeff who helped fill a market need and allowed tens of thousands of childcare center owners to run their business and focus on the kids. An inspirational CEO in JoAnn who epitomized leadership through enviable organic growth, M&A and product expansion, and stewarded the business through the depths of COVID.
Most of all, I’m just grateful. Grateful to Jeff, JoAnn and Marc. Grateful to the countless Procare Solutions team members who created, innovated and improved.
