Highlights
I recently saw a guy wearing a shirt that read "I thought getting old would take longer."
I laughed in recognition of that feeling, but also have pondered it since.
As I round the corner toward turning 50 later this year, it feels both surprising and welcome.
In many ways, I feel far younger and alive than I ever have. But I also notice the limitations that age brings.
✅ Pulling a hammy playing adult kickball. ✅ Developing an affinity for naps. ✅ Being less willing & able to push myself mentally.
But in exchange for the limitations, I've gained so much more: ✅ Valuing wisdom over knowledge. ✅ Placing importance on time and memories over money. ✅ Knowing my values and saying Yes to the weird & wild and saying No to things that aren't really that important or impactful.
I used to compare youth and middle age as if one could be superior to the other. Ultimately every age brings benefits and limitations. The one thing we control is fully embracing our capacities at any point along the way. And for that I'm truly grateful!

What's your actual comfort level being alone with your thoughts?
This fascinating study revealed that for many participants, the discomfort of 15-minutes of silence and boredom is greater than relieving that boredom temporarily with a painful electical shock.

The good news - you can build stamina for quiet contemplation and it can feel very grounding. Start small like 5-10 minutes and practice adding one minute each time until you reach 20 minutes of silence, then repeat daily knowing that some days will feel easy and others will feel very long.
