We Need to Talk! Increasing the survival rate of startups is critical.

Having attended hundreds of events and listened to thousands of entrepreneurs, I believe there’s a need to focus on the specific challenges Malaysian startups face:

Marketing, funding, selecting the right investors and term sheets, dealing with founder problems, sales and market access on a low budget, employee selection, motivation, and retention, firing done right, technology best practices, staying focused, learning to say no, do we need a billiard pool table? how to deal effectively with bureaucracy, surviving when free cloud credits dry out, among many other "soft skills".

Increasing the number of startups is important, but we need them to survive, become world or niche champions, and help train the new set of founders.

The picture below shows our building directory, Tecsisa, my company started in my bedroom with a CRT monitor that hurt my eyes, years later we shared an office park with multinational companies and became one. Surviving requires more than technology.

What challenges do you face and would like to talk about?
