Highlights
Black Hat and DEF CON are in the books. Some takeaways:
-It’s been another standout summer conference season for Synack. Thank you to everyone who braved the Vegas heat to make this Black Hat a success, and a special shoutout to the Synackers who helped support us from afar. From what I heard on the show floor, our “see the difference” motto for our Penetration Testing as a Service platform really resonated with attendees. DEF CON didn’t disappoint as we supported the first-ever Bug Bounty village and celebrated our Synack Red Team community with a Hacker Hangout.
-I appreciated seeing how many cybersecurity practitioners (not just CISOs) swung by our booth and joined our events in the Mandalay Bay Presidential Suite. The Women in Cyber breakfast – a mainstay for Synack during RSA but new to Black Hat this year – was a highlight.
-While my schedule made it impossible to attend this year’s briefings, I got a download from members of our team who did sit through some of the sessions. One that stood out to me: Jen Easterly’s talk voicing confidence in the integrity of the upcoming U.S. presidential election despite rising threats (including one that reportedly hit the Trump campaign over the weekend, after Jen’s talk). Safeguarding elections from foreign adversaries is challenging but doable, and we’re proud to contribute to that defense through several of our partnerships.
Our second annual State of Vulnerabilities Report offers the cybersecurity community a red team perspective based on hundreds of thousands of hours of testing across our global customers. We’ve added new analysis since last year, including breakdowns by industry: Who’s moving the fastest to close security gaps? And we address how the vulnerability landscape is evolving in the age of #AI.
Many, many Synackers and Synack Red Team members contributed to this report. It’s well worth your time:
