Jay Varkey

Associate Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine

Dr. Jay B. Varkey is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the Emory University School of Medicine. He received his BA in International Affairs and Political Science from Marquette University in 1998 and graduated with honors. Dr. Varkey obtained his MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2002, where he was a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Duke University Medical Center. In 2009, he joined Emory University School of Medicine as the medical director of the antibiotic stewardship program at Emory University Hospital and currently holds the positions of Chief Quality Officer and Hospital Epidemiologist. Dr. Varkey is actively involved in teaching and lecturing, with a primary research focus on enhancing patient safety and reducing healthcare-associated infections.
