Often, PMs set a duration of two weeks for their experiments and then conclude that the results are not statistically significant. However, it's important to note that this short duration may not be sufficient to draw reliable conclusions. Statistical significance is influenced not only by the effect size but also by the sample size and variability of the data.
4️⃣ Define success criteria: Clearly define what success🎯 looks like for your experiment before you start. Determine the specific metrics or thresholds that indicate a successful outcome. This helps you stay focused on the desired outcomes and prevents bias in interpreting the results.
5️⃣ Choose the appropriate experiment type: Familiarize📚 yourself with various experiment types such as A/B, switchback, factorial and others. Select the one that aligns best with your specific objectives.
6️⃣ Analyze and interpret results comprehensively: If your results are not statistically significant, don't merely dismiss 🚫🗑️ them. Instead, report the observed delta, assess the p-value and its significance relative to the conventional threshold of 0.05. Consider the confidence interval as well. Even if the effect is small, you can decide whether to proceed with launching if you observe a positive impact. If the impact is negative, leverage your domain knowledge in conjunction with the experiment results to understand potential causes.
