Executive Director, Glen Nelson Center at American Public Media

Jeff Freeland Nelson is a renowned expert in media innovation, entrepreneurship, and public policy. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Glen Nelson Center at the American Public Media Group. In this role, Jeff oversees the Horizon Fund, a philanthropic venture capital fund, and the Next Challenge for Media & Journalism, a global media innovation competition. With a background as a Senior Producer and Head of Public Affairs at APMG, Jeff spearheaded national initiatives such as the Future of News and the Comer Climate Change Summit. He was instrumental in launching '170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting,' which successfully defended federal funding for public broadcasting. Jeff's entrepreneurial endeavors include founding two nonprofit organizations, a for-profit toy company called YOXO, and supporting various startups as an investor, advisor, coach, and board member. Throughout his career, Jeff has been recognized with awards such as the Catalytic Leader Award from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Theater and English from Hamline University and a Master in Public Administration (MPA) with an emphasis on Leadership, Financial Management, and Negotiation from the Harvard Kennedy School.
