I like to say "I'm on a mission to create better work environments & more fulfilling careers for middle managers everywhere." ... Over the last few weeks I have had the honor of bringing The Middle Matters: A Toolkit for Middle Managers to a few teams.

Thanks to Ashlee Weisser who shared the book with her team (after writing an amazing review on amazon!!) ... it was cool to get a chance to meet her team live and chat about the book and hear which stories resonated with them!

Kristin K. and I met during my book writing journey. She was one of my advance readers who reviewed the book before it was even published ... for which I was so appreciative! I had the chance to talk about the doer-leader-influencer framework with her awesome team - who now all of copies of the book to dig into.

Just added 2 more of these for October plus a working on a full program (assessment-workshop-coaching program) with another great group! This is what I am most excited about -- the opportunity to share my learnings from the past 20+ years.

So many lessons that I wish I had known 20 years ago are in "The Middle Matters" -- shoot me a note if you have a team that might find them helpful, I'd love to chat about a book club, a presentation or program.

Thanks Kristin and Ashlee for spreading the word!

Perhaps the story from The Middle Matters: A Toolkit for Middle Managers that people seem to remember the most is the one entitled "Sometimes you go to Chicago."

I'll leave the full story for the book.

The moral though is -- your relationship with your boss is all about credibility. Does your boss believe you and trust you? If they do, you will get all kinds of autonomy. If they don't, not so much.

By the way, this is not the same question as "are you trustworthy?" which is all about the quality of your work. You may be completely trustworthy -- and your boss still may not trust you.

Rather than getting exasperated -- i.e. "why doesn't my boss trust me?", it is worth it to go the extra mile to gain that trust.

So hop on that flight, go to Chicago ... if it builds trust, it'll be worth it.

The Middle Matters: A Toolkit for Middle Managers has the full story.
