Today is one of my favorite days at #USAA – #KIDternship is back in action at our San Antonio and Plano campuses. Our Phoenix campus recently hosted their KIDternship a couple of weeks ago as well. Sponsored by USAA’s Enterprise Chief Information Office (ECIO), KIDternship is a program for children of ECIO employees and our Member Service Representative teammates, it is designed to promote awareness of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields. I was able to kick off the KIDternship by sharing bittersweet memories of USAA’s former CEO, Major General Joe Robles. Joe, as he preferred to be called, was passionate about innovation and technology and lead USAA to become the most innovative insurance company in the industry. His legacy will live on through us all, and this event is testament to that. Participation in KIDternship includes students aged 12-18, and they were able to spend the entire day at USAA with their parent, attending classes and an browsing an Expo Hall. Some of the classes include Scratch Coding, Python Coding, UI/UX Design through Paper Prototyping, Data Center and Innovation Lab Tours, a Lego Build and Military 101. The Expo Hall included 3D Design, Women in Data, Drones and the FIRST Robotics Team. KIDternship was the brainchild of my Co-Executive Sponsor, Alisha Stratton. Alisha had an idea to create an event to engage students in STEM, and here we all are! We also could not do it without the amazing teams at each of our campuses. A HUGE thank you everyone who helped make this event a success, and in particular to the following people: San Antonio Campus Leads – Annat Wagner, Valeria Garza, Mason Pierce Phoenix Campus Leads – Kaitlyn Mulligan, Jennifer Martin, Deborah Juarez, Rebecca Cullimore Plano Campus Leads – Jenny Smith, Manjari Jain, Albert Chapman I hope everyone who attended KIDternship had an awesome time and I look forward to next year! #KIDternship #USAAEmployee
Here at #USAA, “We know what it means to serve,” is more than just a slogan. Our employees give back to our community each and every day volunteering for many organizations. Recently, my team and I had the privilege of serving over 600 service members lunch at Fort Sam Houston. We prepped and served food, but more importantly, we were able to learn about the new military recruits as they ate lunch and took a break from training. Most were at Fort Sam Houston for Advanced Individual Training (AIT), which is their first stop following boot camp. It truly was a great day, and I appreciate #USAA providing this opportunity for us to really learn about the members we serve. #USAAEmployee #USAAServes
