RFK Jr. likes Web3. At a campaign event he said, "we're going to put the entire U.S. budget on blockchain." Actually, what he really likes is the idea of a public decentralized ledger which blockchains can provide. Kennedy adds, "we're going to have 300 millions eyeballs on our budget, and if somebody is spending $16,000 for a toilet seat, everybody's going to know about it." Great idea. But so what. Everybody already knows that government fiscal policy and actual spending are not only irresponsible, but many times not congruent with the will of the people. Yet congress spends, because they can. We should be less concerned about transparency and more concerned about accountability. E.g. fixing our budget deficit, national debt, and the interest we currently pay on the debt (now more than $1 Trillion a year - forget the toilet seat, let that sink in). While I am an advocate for Web3 and the future decentralization brings, just saying we'll put the U.S. budget on blockchain falls short of a real strategy that addresses the real problem, our Republic is broken and corrupt. Web3 Democracy is where we need to start.
