Highlights
Today is my 8th anniversary of starting at Cambridge Enterprise - time really does fly! In celebration I thought I would share some learnings from my time here, and my career more generally.
- It's OK not to have a plan. I started a PhD thinking about a career in research, quickly realised that wasn't for me, worked in biotech marketing because I needed to pay the rent and quickly realised that DEFINITELY wasn't for me, had an existential crisis, and then discovered technology transfer, the career I was born to do but didn't know until I started doing it. Often in life you'll only be able to see your next step - trust the process.
- Relationships are everything and business isn't personal, until it is. Learn everyone's name, always say thank you, and never email in anger.
- Life is too short to stay in a job that is making you unhappy, and careers are long enough for you to have the opportunity to start again and try something new.
- There will always be something unexpected around the corner. Instead of laying awake at night worrying about what you can't control, build a robust professional and personal support system and learn to thrive in the chaos.
Here's to whatever comes next!
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Senior Commercialisation Manager at Cambridge Enterprise!
